There was an awful lot to tonight's ep, but obviously the thing most on my mind is this: Supernatural continues with its proud tradition of killing off every single recurring female character they have. The only one left -- the only one left! -- is Meg. And we all know she's going to be dead by the end of the season. Don't need spoilers to know that much. The way I figure it, there are really only two possibilities left for Meg: either she's dead meat, or she'll be the one to kill/re-trap Lucifer. And of course, those two are not mutually exclusive.
Anyway, RIP Ellen and Jo. Say hello on the other side to Mary, Jess, Madison, Ava, Bella, Pam, Lilith, and Ruby. I'm not sure yet how I feel about the handling of their deaths, other than a general disgust that it happened at all. Although, I will say, I'm a little pissed that they died in vain. It might have been one thing if their deaths resulted in Lucifer's death/defeat, but they ended up dying for nothing. Hmph.
Well. On to other things. I like Crowley! Not least because he's that dude from Leverage! Yes, yes, I know, but his name escapes me just now. (Thank you Wikipedia -- Sterling!) Also, just plain old Crowley is pretty awesome (functioning morons, heh). He's not quite as awesome as the real Crowley, but he'll do. I hope we see more of him. (And seriously, why couldn't they have done something like that with Ruby? I mean, really!)
Then, of course there was the resounding "Oops!" with the Colt not killing Lucifer. Since I kinda figured it wouldn't -- particularly not in the middle of the season -- that was no great surprise. I'm actually pretty sure they're not going to kill Lucifer at all -- do that, and you totally throw out of whack the balance of good and evil, Heaven wins, and game over. Since the idea is not to end the world, killing Lucy is out. I figure they'll re-trap him somehow.
I am, however, kinda interested to see if Sam does indeed say yes before the end. I'm glad that the reference to him saying yes in Detroit wasn't dropped, and that we will get some explanation for why he did say yes in the false future (which, presumably Lucifer is working off of, just like Zachariah). I mean, I guess what'll happen is that whatever happened in the false future to get Sam to give in will still happen, but Dean's presence will give him the will to continue saying no.
Okay, let's see. What else? Funny how easy it was to deal with the hellhounds this time around. Seriously, if some sturdy chains and some salt lines were all it took to barricade a room against the hounds, why didn't they just do that for Dean's deal? Dean could have stayed safely barricaded himself while Sam and Dean kept working on the deal. Or would that have counted as breach of contract? Oh, whatever, I just thought this was yet another case of a previously nigh-unstoppable enemy having its teeth pulled as the stakes of the story are raised.
Urgh. Other than that, I'll just say that I think that, long-term, they're going to regret burning that photo.
Also, I was weak. I saw the promo. Here's to January.
