Season 4 Finale

Huh.
Well, let me take the opportunity first to off to say: I KNEW IT!! Ha-HA, I win, I knew the angels wanted the apocalypse, I knew Lilith was the final seal, I knew Ruby was working for the YED or Lilith, and I was right in both cases!
Okay, other than that. Um. Was it just me, or was that really short? Between the commercials that went on forever, and ending a good three or four minutes before 10... I dunno. I'll see what the runtime was when I download the episode.
Really, though, aside from some glee about my theories being borne out, and some cheering when Bobby chewed Dean out, I was remarkably emotionally disconnected. Maybe I've just spent too much time thinking about it, and burned out my ability to be invested, I dunno, but I felt like I was watching an ordinary, mediocre episode. Well, not mediocre, perhaps, but... Devil's Trap, All Hell Breaks Loose, No Rest for the Wicked... those were all emotional sucker-punches. Kinda like When the Levee Breaks, now I think of it. This, though? The strongest I felt about anything was disappointment when Sam and Dean killed Ruby. And glee over Bobby chewing out Dean. There was definitely some cheering there. Everything else was just sort of meh, though.
I suppose I also came close to feeling something over Sam and the nurse. Poor Sammy. *pets him* He's gonna be tearing himself up over that one.
Glad though I suppose I am that the brothers are back together, I can help but feel a bit cheated that the whole Sam vs Dean thing seems to have fizzled out into nothing. Unless Lucifer possesses Sam in the Season 5 premiere. That'd be cool. Although I don't think that's something they could maintain for more than an episode, or maybe two. I'm also annoyed that Dean will apparently still have his sidekick Castiel, while Sam's sidekick is now dead, dead, dead. And may I just say: RUBY!!!!! I loved you, baby!!
I guess the Big Bads next season will be some combination of the angels and Lucifer. I have to wonder if they're going to go through with the whole Armageddon thing. I can't imagine that they would: that would turn the entire season into one long mytharc, with no case episodes at all. Not to mention that it would probably be beyond their means, budget-wise.
On the other hand -- Sam released Lucifer. The King of Hell is now running around. I wonder if that means the whole Boy King plot line will be remembered and see the light of day. God, I hope so. Ditto with the psychic powers. Ruby did seem to imply that the demon blood was just a crutch, that Sam could have done it on his own.
I suppose I just have one last question: why did Lilith offer to stop? I mean, I can handwave Lilith being scared of Sam -- he might have killed her at the wrong time and screwed everything up. I can kind of see her trying to kill him -- she always failed (always had a mechanism for failure built in), and she needed him to hate her and be serious about trying to kill her. But why did she offer to stop? Why did she offer to stop the apocalypse if Sam and Dean would agree to die? I mean, Dean maybe. If he's the one destined to stop Lucifer somehow, then yes, I can see them wanting him out of the way. But Sam? They needed Sam alive. Sam had to be there on the final day to kill Lilith and free Lucifer. There was no point to her offer to stop if it wasn't genuine. The result of that offer would have been a dead Sam and no free Lucifer. And she didn't seem at all reluctant to die in that cause there at the end. So, why did she make the offer?!
Maybe that question will be answered next season. Four months till we find out. At least I'm not actually on my seat-edge over the cliffhanger. Last year I thought I might tear my hair out waiting for the next season. This year, I don't think I'll have a problem being patient. Hopefully this will result in some good fic.
Now, I will go and finish the drink I poured for myself at the beginning of the ep, thinking I'd need it. No point wasting good booze.
